OUR ETHICAL HARVESTING PRACTICES.

We're Troy and Claire, two passionate Kiwis who call Tora, the stunningly wild and windswept Southern Coast of the Wairarapa, home. With decades of experience harvesting kaimoana on the East Coast, we understand the importance of keeping it local and supporting our community. When you order from Tora Collective, you're supporting a small, family-owned business that's dedicated to bringing you the freshest seafood New Zealand has to offer.

proudly kiwi.

No holding tanks, no supply chains, just straight from the ocean to your door. We don't mess around with anything but the freshest catch, so we work with the tides and weather to get it to you as quickly as possible. Trust us, you won't find any fresher unless you catch it yourself!

caught to your order.

When the waves are calm enough, we launch off Tora beach in our trusty vessel, Tākitimu, to pot for crayfish along a 15km stretch of coast right on our doorstep. When the waters are calm, we dive in, to hand-gather paua and kina. Ensuring we only harvest seasonally and take what is ordered to protect the ocean's ecosystem. We're all about sustainability here, so you can feel good knowing that your seafood is responsibly sourced.

Once we've harvested your order, we roll up our sleeves and pack it ourselves the same day, before sending it straight to your door - arriving the following day.

We rely on the tides and weather conditions to get your seafood to you as quickly as possible, we promise it'll be worth the wait. Nothing beats the taste of seafood straight from the ocean.

sustainable seafood.

We're all about seafood that you can feel good about. Our fishing practices prioritise the health of our fisheries and oceans, and ensure that we're doing our part to protect marine ecosystems. Here's what sets us apart:

fishing in harmony.

We go with the flow of nature, fishing for species only when they're in season. It's common sense, really! By respecting their mating and egg-laying periods, we give them the space they need to reproduce and keep their populations thriving.

intentionally harvested.

We take a "catch to order" approach, just like tending to a garden. Instead of taking too much from one spot, we harvest small amounts weekly from different locations only harvesting what is pre-sold. This method ensures we minimise waste and pressure on the environment. It's all about balance and enjoying seafood sustainably.

PĀUA with a purpose.

We've set our own size limit for harvesting pāua (abalone) at 128mm, above what's required by law. By leaving the smaller pāua in the ocean, we give them a chance to grow and reproduce, helping to maintain a healthy population year after year.

ladies first.

We're all about girl power, so we release all the female crayfish back into the ocean so they can keep doing their thing. These ladies lay around 500,000 eggs each year, and by letting them go, we ensure a bright future for the species.

mother nature approved .

We've put in the work to make our packaging eco-friendly. Say goodbye to plastic ice packs and polystyrene! We've harnessed the power of nature by using wool, seaweed, and our homemade compostable ice packs. Our packaging is completely recyclable & home-compostable, ensuring that you can savour your delicious seafood guilt-free.
